Everybody will die eventually. But will insurance company pay the beneficiary all the time?

Interesting question! Not to worry, insurance companies make plenty of money. Simply, while they do utilize mortality tables to make decision on insurability and make money by using averages, they also invest the premiums you pay. These are the two main method of generating profits I am aware of.

As far as paying on a death benefit, as long as the applicant does not commit fraud on the application, beneficiaries should have no problem collecting the death benefit. Keep in mind that, most companies have a one to two year wait for fraud and suicide. In other words, during that period, the insurance company reserves the right to investigate the reason for the insured’s death and deny a claim due to suicide. Be well.

Philippe Deraywww.mcdlife.com

No.The insurance company will only pay the beneficiary if the person still had life insurance when the person died.Everyone dies eventually, but not everyone keeps their life insurance that long.

Even if the person does still have life insurance, the amount that was paid for the life insurance, plus whatever the insurance company made by investing the money during the years that the person was alive, may be more than the life insurance company pays to the beneficiary.

The main way the life insurance companies make money is by investing the money for the years between when the person pays for the life insurance and when the person dies.

Yes, as long as the policy is in force, at the time of death.

95% of policies (both term and whole life) stay in force less than five years.70% of Americans die without active life insurance policies. So clearly, many, many people get sold a policy, keep it for a couple of years, then let it cancel. That high cancellation rate is factored into the rates, which is why rates are relatively low.

If the premiums are paid up insurance will pay the beneficiary. Some people buy life insurance and after the term ends, they dont renew the policy.

They make money by charging premiums every month.

Everybody WILL die eventually, but many people won’t die WHEN they own life insurance.I believe the average life span of a life insurance policy is about 8 years.

I’m looking for major medical with maybe some doctor visits if ever needed. Thanks.

Find out who the major health insurers are in your state, and call them directly.Tell them you want to purchase an individal policy. If you want the least expensive type of policy, then go for a HIGH deductible, and forget about coverage for doctors vistis…you want what is known as "Catastrophic Coverage."…in other words, hospitalization and surgery.

If you want some relief from the costs of regular doctor visits, then on TOP of your major medical policy, consider purchasing a supplemental voluntary indemnity policy (company’s like Aflac, Colonial, Combined, etc) offer these. They won’t pay for 100% of the cost, but they might give you some money back on office visits.

Major medical right now (because of Obamacare) pricing is dependent only on AGE. If you are under 40, with a high deductible ($5-10K) you will be able to get a decent policy for probably between $150-300 a month.

It is money well spent. A one week stay in a Hospital Intensive Care Unit can easily cost fifty thousand dollars—yup, you read that right, $50,000.00.

Don’t listen to what anyone else says they pay for their insurance. The average Joe doesn’t understand insurance AT ALL and people say ridiculous things about their policies without knowing what they are talking about…the person you overheard could have misunderstood what they actually had, and would not have found out until they were laying in a hospital bed, saying "damn."

You wrote that you make decent cash…don’t be cheap about your health insurance…most bankruptices in the U.S. today are because of medical bills.Budget your money wisely, and get GOOD SOLID coverage.Don’t buy health insurance from the company’s you see on the Internet, magazines, or tv commercials.Start with Blue Cross, and realize that because you are a single person, quotes from the major companys (Blue Cross, Tufts, United HealthCare, Aetna, Kaiser) are going to be very similar.

Good luck.

You need a trusted adviser to help you through the process of purchasing health insurance so that you understand what you are purchasing. Understanding exactly what you are buying is as important as the price. An agent can give you the knowledge you need so that you can intelligently decide what the right balance is between affordability and policy benefits.

If you choose a plan that covers everything i.e. doctors office visits, prescription drugs, preventative health benefits, maternity coverage as well as low deductibles, low co-pays and optional vision and dental benefits your monthly premiums will be significant.

On the other hand if you are young, healthy and don’t use the health care system you might consider a plan that covers only the major health catastrophe. Ask the agent if an HSA is right for you. In this type of plan the insurance company does not pay benefits until you first reach a significant out of pocket cost and you can fund the deductible with pretax dollars. If the funds are not used they roll over from year to year.

If you’d rather have more comprehensive individual health insurance coverage, that includes features such as preventive care coverage, consider a PPO or HMO plan with a hefty in-hospital deductible but covers doctor’s office visits with a copay. Because your healthy, you might choose to not cover prescription drugs.

Either of these approaches will result in a lower monthly premium. You then can use the monthly premium savings to pay out of pocket for the occasional doctor visit or prescription and still come out ahead.

Check with the agent that writes your home or auto insurance he/she can provide you a health insurance proposal that takes into account your budget and health status. They can answer questions so that you understand what is and is not covered by the policy. They can explain deductibles and co-pays and show you the hospitals and doctors that participate in the network. (Networks in PPO and HMO plans are very important considerations).

Major medical means, high deductible, so that a few doctor visits aren’t covered.A few doctor visits if needed, means a very low deductible.

So you’re asking about a product that gives EXCELLENT coverage, at high deductible prices. You’ve got the money for an 83 Chevette, but you want a 2012 Corvette.Ain’t gonna happen.

With health insurance, you get what you pay for.

There is no way that is inexpensive everywhere. There are inexpensive ways in most places, but they are not the same everywhere. The most expensive way to buy insurance is to pick an inexpensive way that is inexpensive somewhere else — because you have to move to buy insurance that way.The only inexpensive way is to find out what is inexpensive where you already live.

I would highly recommend that you go through an independent agent, as they will have the most variety in terms of available carriers from which to choose.

Keep in mind, that the higher the deductible, the lower the monthly payments will be.

If you want, you may refer to my profile for information pertaining to one whom I would recommend.

Odds are you will not find an organization that will help you pay car insurance while job hunting.

Park it till you can afford to insure it.

Don’t sweat it. The insurance companies don’t take it personally when you drop coverage. They will be happy to have your business (and money) again. Just shop around, get the best deal and sign up.

Also, it sounds like you have been through some tough times and things have turned around for you. Good for you and well done hanging in there.

You might want to post your state. In California there is a low cost autoinsurance program for people that are low income. A link is below. It is not a solicitation or spam. It is the government website. It is a government run program.

YOu want someone to give you a hand and help you stand up?Ask people near you..

You want people to buy you new car insurance? As your parents.

In every state where insurance is compulsory, there is a state program that will always take you.

Hey all so after speaking to more people than i can count in the NJDOL I finally got a answer i think. The problem is i am a FT Student and was approved for school in the fall, 2011 term ( sent both fall, 2011 and spring 2012 Schedules to the claims examiner.) Today i am told that cause i am in the spring 2012 term i need to speak to someone in mid/late Feb. After talking to a few different people including someone in a Higher position in the NJDOL, i am told they don’t understand why i have to go through it Again. Was told that the claims examiner put down that my major is a in demand occupation. The best part is i was able to collect 4 weeks of benefits from the time my fall 2011 term ended to now.

Any ideas as to what the heck happendend and what to do? ( I know the higher up said they were gonna try and get it fixed but does that have a chance of really happing?) It seems unfair that out of the blue this happendend and that i send both schedules in Nov to have to go through being on the edge Again.

You’re asking people here how a government entitlement program got screwed up?Um, it’s kinda self evident – that’s what happens.

There’s no way around it, you have to chug your way through "the system" and jump through "the hoops" to get "your checks".

My grandmother was using medi-cal before she passed away. She died in September and her house just recently sold. Her will states that she wants the money to go to her grand children, but medi-cal is questioning the executor of her estate. Can they take the money meant for her grand kids?

No, they can’t. However, they can take the money that would have been spent for her care while she was alive. Anything that is left over would then be given to you as per the will.

Yes, Medi-Cal has the legal right to get their money back from the estate of the deceased in California since she was on Medi-Cal. The public benefits that the state paid out is a loan, it is not a gift. In California if you are over 55 years old when you go on public benefits, the state can levy the estate to recover that money. The estate includes a home that has to be sold, assets, bank accounts, jewelry. The executor of the estate was duly notified.

Nursing care is not cheap. It costs upward of $5000 a month and your grandmother’s Social Security did not come near covering that cost. It is unfortunate that your grandmother did not give your family money before she died. Yes, all of the estate is subject to the levy by California for the amount they paid out in Medi-Cal benefits.

The except is if your grandmother has minor children or any children who are disabled or a surviving spouse. The lien wont be in effect until the spouse dies, the children become adults or no longer disabled.

Yes.

The taxpayers of the state of california pony’d up to pay her medical bills, not her grandkids. They are entitled to reimbursement.

All of her debts must be paid off, including what welfare paid for her, before ANYONE can inherit anything.Otherwise, it would be JUST like the taxpayers of California putting money into the grandkids pockets! Completely unfair.

I am looking into getting health insurance and the policy I am currently considering says that maternity and complications of pregnancy are covered as any other sickness. They are in the same section on the same line so I am wondering if this means they cover maternity expenses or if they only cover complications like any other illness. Any help would be great. Thanks!

whatever their coverage policy is for illness, the same policy applies for pregnancy

Well, the way you write it, it sounds like it’s covered subject to policy limits, terms, conditions, and deductibles.

But if you’re seriously looking for help, you probably need to use a local agent. They can answer the question ACCURATELY, as they’ll know which the heck policy you’re looking at.

Pregnancy is not an illness, but complications of pregnancy could be. Maternity costs could be limited to pregnancy beginning after the beginning date of the policy. Check with the insurer.

Meaning if you have a $500 deductible and 80% coverage for an illness…the maternity will work the same way.
